Stick Fighting DBMA

In Canada, following the dictum “Our house, our rules”, the Dog Brothers Canada community abides by its own principles for its DB fighters and for conduct at its sanctioned fighting events – while maintaining the high standards and original intentions of the DB Founders.

The Dog Brothers Martial Art system at Black Flag

At BlackFlag, under the leadership of Hoang Minh “Chopstick Dog” Pham, students can train in the art of real-contact stick-fighting.

DBMA is a system composed of multiple styles (Filipino Martial Arts, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Inosanto Blend, Lameco, Kali/Silat, Krabi Krabong, BJJ, etc.), which has evolved through multiple iterations of controlled fights with minimal protection since 1988 in Los Angeles (the events known as Dog Brothers Gathering of the Pack). It has proven its effectiveness through these practical experiences. DBMA is led by Master Instructor and Founder/Punong Guro Marc “Crafty Dog” Denny, based in the United States, and operates through the Dog Brothers Martial Arts Association.

Here at Black Flag, we regularly organize light sparring events and full-contact stick fighting, as well as training sessions. We also enjoy fighting with training swords, spears, bucklers, knives, and any other improvised weapons to test our skills and improve ourselves.

Black Flag is proud to be part of the Dog Brothers Canada community and to offer practitioners the opportunity to apply the techniques they have learned under controlled conditions. We strongly encourage our members to push their physical and mental limits and to test themselves at the Gatherings.

Within the Black Flag school, we now have regular and experienced fighters (ranked as “Dog,” “Candidate Dog Brother,” and “Full Dog Brother”), and we are establishing ourselves as a local clan known as the "Montreal Mongrels".
